Stocks opened higher Monday, bouncing after the worst week for the S&P 500 and Dow since March 2023. Analysts saw no clear catalyst for the bounce, but expected market volatility to persist amid uncertainty over the economic outlook and the scope of fully expected Federal Reserve rate cuts.

U.S. stocks are rising Monday and clawing back some of the losses from their worst week in nearly a year and a half. The S&P 500 was 0.9% higher in afternoon trading and on track to break a four-day losing streak.

Coming off the worst trading week in close to a year-and-a-half, markets on Wall Street are poised to rebound at the opening bell Monday. Futures for the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.

The U.S. stock market was rising midday Monday, with the S&P 500 posting gains across all 11 of its sectors. The S&P 500’s industrials sector had the biggest rise in midday trading Monday, up 1.7%, according to FactSet data.
