Whatever McCarthy’s next career move is, he’s not expected to head toward the New York Jets. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints are expected to pursue McCarthy. The Jets were not listed as one of the teams interested in McCarthy at the early stages of of his availability:

DALLAS — Mike McCarthy is not expected to return as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported Monday. Schefter reported that McCarthy and the Cowboys "engaged in no discussions about a new deal" and that McCarthy is now expected to be a candidate for the open coaching positions in New Orleans and Chicago.

The Cowboys previously denied the Bears' request to interview McCarthy for their head coaching vacancy. Now that the two sides have failed to lock down a new contract, McCarthy will end up getting the opportunity to interview with Chicago.
