There is new fallout from last weekend's crash on the tracks in Delray Beach when a Brightline train slammed into a fire truck.

Three firefighters and 12 train passengers were hospitalized after a Brightline train crashed with a fire truck in crowded downtown Delray Beach late Saturday morning.

A Brightline train was stopped on the tracks, its front completely destroyed about a block away from a twisted fire truck that lay on its side.

Around 10:45 a.m., a Brightline train and a Delray Beach Fire Rescue ladder truck collided near East Atlantic Avenue and Railroad Avenue, according to city spokeswoman Gina Carter. Debris from the crash scattered across the tracks and nearby roadways.

Three firefighters were hospitalized Saturday after a Brightline train collided with a Delray Beach Fire Rescue truck, according to local officials. The department told USA TODAY in an email that the firefighters were in stable condition.

They are on leave “pending the results of an internal administrative investigation to determine if City and Fire Rescue policies and procedures were followed,” the fire chief said.

The crossing gates were lowered and the fire truck was straddling the tracks when the high-speed train approached, a video of the collision shows.
