The 2025 Belmont Stakes has a rare but intriguing storyline attached to it. A Triple Crown is not on the line on Saturday at Saratoga, but the winners of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes are entered into the eight-horse field.

Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty and Preakness winner Journalism renew their rivalry Saturday in the Belmont Stakes, the final leg of US racing's Triple Crown being held this year at Saratoga Race Course.

The track at the old Belmont Park was a mile-and-a-half oval, the only one of that length in the country and one perfectly suited to the Belmont Stakes’ 12 furlongs (a furlong is an eighth of a mile). That will remain unchanged when Belmont reopens.
