For the first time, liquor stores in Colorado could stay open on Christmas. It's part of a new law that went into effect this year. In May, Colorado Governor Jared Polis signed a bill into law allowing liquor stores to stay open on the holiday. Until now, it was the only day of the year they were required to keep closed.

Liquor stores are closed on Christmas, but convenient stores and groceries store that are open on the holiday will sell beer and wine.

Typically, most businesses are closed on Christmas Day. Beginning this year, Colorado liquor stores no longer have to be.

PALISADE, Colo. (KJCT) - Colorado liquor stores can now be open on Christmas Day. In May 2024, the Colorado General Assembly passed Senate Bill 24-231, which removed a prohibition law banning liquor stores from being open on the holiday.

Per state law, grocery stores can't be open on Christmas Day. Whether it's Market Basket, Whole Foods, Dave's Fresh Marketplace, Stop & Shop or Trader Joe's, your regular grocery store won't be open, so you'll have to go to a convenience store instead.
