Maple Grove is still rolling. In pursuit of the program’s first state title, the Crimson rode a winning streak that started in December all the way to the Class 4A championship game. The class’ top seed knocked out fourth-seeded Lakeville North 69-50 in the semifinals Thursday night at Williams Arena.

The forced stops allowed White Bear Lake (20-10) to be the offensive aggressor on the other end. Elise Dieterle — who led White Bear Lake with 18 points — hit a couple big shots, and senior guard Addison Post attacked the paint in transition with success.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown for the Hopkins Royals. The eight-time state champs have been to the Class 4A state title game 12 times in the past 14 years and will return again Saturday, thanks to their 68-48 semifinal victory Thursday at Williams Arena.

The Panthers trimmed their deficit against the top seed to 5 in the second half before the Crimson pulled away.
