Investments in artificial intelligence will account for a significant increase in Facebook parent company Meta’s expenses in the coming year, but stronger-than-expected revenue from its advertising business was enough to reassure investors that its business is on the right track.

Analysts tracked by FactSet expect Meta to report $4.72 in earnings per share for its second quarter. That would be up from $2.98 in the same period a year earlier. Revenue is projected to come in at $38.26 billion, up from $32.00 billion a year before.

Meta Platforms beat market expectations for second-quarter revenue on Wednesday and issued a rosy sales forecast for the third quarter, signaling that robust digital-ad spending on its social media platforms can cover the cost of its artificial-intelligence investments.
