The four astronauts of NASA’s historic Artemis II mission have arrived in Florida, days ahead of their planned launch that will send them around the moon and deeper into space than any humans have gone before.
KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Florida — The US military has always been part of NASA’s human spaceflight program. The first astronauts were nearly all military pilots, and two of the four crew members set to fly around the Moon on NASA’s Artemis II mission were Navy test pilots before joining the astronaut corps.
Th Artemis II mission will take four astronauts thousands of miles beyond the moon before the Orion spacecraft makes a U-turn and heads back to Earth on an approximately 10-day journey.
