The department said a Mayday was issued when a complete roof collapse trapped three Northeast Nelson firefighters and two Nelson County firefighters. A sixth firefighter was reportedly injured while attempting to rescue the others. The firefighters were taken to Flaget Hospital with minor injuries, where they were treated and released.

Six firefighters are at home recovering after a roof collapsed on them in Nelson County. The firefighters were battling a blaze in Fairfield at the old Henry McKenna Distillery site. The building had been converted into apartments, which is where the fire started.
