A shooting in a rural area of Northern Ireland on Wednesday left a woman and two children dead and a man seriously wounded, police and the ambulance service said. All four were from the same household.

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) named the three victims in the incident in Maguiresbridge on Wednesday as Vanessa Whyte, 45, a veterinary surgeon originally from Co Clare, her daughter Sara Rutledge, 13, and son James Rutledge, 14.

A man, who is a member of the same household, was seriously injured in the shooting in the village of Maguiresbridge, about 75 miles (120km) southwest of Belfast.
