Southport officials were reporting extensive flooding in the city at the mouth of the Cape Fear River, with several roads overwashed and impassable. There also were numerous reports of flooding impacting homes.

Strong rain bands spinning ashore from a slow-moving tropical weather system just off the North Carolina coast led to major flooding in Brunswick and New Hanover counties. Both Carolina Beach and Southport saw nearly all roads impassable and, at least for Southport, some roads damaged and likely out of service for days.
