The Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that the accused arrested for the sexual assault of a 19-year-old Anna University student in Chennai is a “repeat offender and a DMK functionary”, an accusation which DMK leaders have denied.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has claimed that the suspect apprehended for the sexual assault on a 19-year-old student from Anna University in Chennai is a "repeat offender and a DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) functionary".

The sexual assault on a girl student at the prestigious state-run Anna University in the heart of Chennai, on the night before Christmas eve, has sent shockwaves across the state.

A day after the sexual assault of a woman student on Anna University campus in Chennai came to light, AIADMK and BJP workers staged a protest demanding justice on Thursday. Following the protest, both the party workers were detained by the police.

After the alleged sexual assault of a second-year student at Anna University, Chennai police conducted a security checks in the campus in Chennai on December 26. All students, staffs and officials were thoroughly checked while entering the University campus.

The accused entered the campus and sexually assaulted the second-year student behind a building after thrashing a male student, who was accompanying her.
