Canada and Mexico will work together to try to get the U.S. to cut auto tariffs on imports from the two countries, Mexico’s foreign affairs secretary said Friday at a meeting with his counterpart in Ottawa.

President Trump is indicating that he may punish Canada over wildfire smoke that’s drifted into the U.S. further inflaming tensions.

President Donald Trump blamed what he called incompetent Canadian forest management for wildfire smoke that rolled into America’s Midwest, northeast and down to North Carolina. He said on Friday he would add the "incalculable cost" of dealing with the pollution to existing tariffs on Canadian goods.

The president said on Friday in a social media post that Canada was failing to manage its wildfire response as smoke has blanketed U.S. cities including New York and Chicago.
