March 14 (UPI) -- Matlock actor Jason Ritter is slated to join HBO's upcoming Lanterns series inspired by the Green Lantern DC comic. He will portray Billy Macon who tries to cash in on his family's name as he carries out tasks for his father, several outlets report.

Ritter currently stars alongside Katky Bates in CBS’ Matlock and has a guest role in the forthcoming second season of Peacock’s Poker Face. His recent credits also include Netflix’s Raising Dion, Hulu’s miniseries Candy and voice work on Krapopolis and Gen V. He is repped by The Burstein Company and Gersh.

The eagerly awaited HBO series Lanterns, which is based on DC Comics' Green Lantern universe, has cast Jason Ritter in a recurring role.

According to The InSneider , Jason Ritter ( Matlock , Parenthood ) has signed on for the upcoming DC Studios series Lanterns , and he’s reportedly set to play the husband of Kelly Macdonald ’s Sheriff Kerry.
