Progress is slow but continuing. Staunton city offices and the Staunton Public Library are set to open at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

A coastal storm has a chance to bring snow to Winston-Salem, Greensboro and the Piedmont Triad. Travel impacts are likely.

A winter storm is headed to the Tri-State Area with heavy snow expected. New Yorkers could see 6-12 inches Saturday night into Monday.

"It is rare that storms combine this much snow, ice and bitter cold over such a large area — a widespread travel-halting winter storm will stall daily life for days in large portions of the central and eastern U.S.," Evan Myers of AccuWeather said.

The winter storm dropped heavy snow in Erie County, prompting a Level 3 Snow Emergency, which typically means roads are closed to all except emergency vehicles.
