Jet engine maker Pratt & Whitney confirmed a small amount of layoffs. A spokesperson told Channel 3 on Wednesday that the company was working to reduce costs and streamline its structure. The layoffs included some at the company’s East Hartford location.

Pratt & Whitney is an aerospace manufacturer, a subsidiary of RTX Corporation (formerly Raytheon) and a defense contractor that provides aircraft engines to the military. This past September, the company was awarded a $1.3 billion contract to provide updates to their F135 engine core.

East Hartford-based Pratt & Whitney is cutting some jobs, a company spokesperson said Wednesday. The spokesperson said the company will conduct “a small reduction of salaried positions globally” to “reinvest in high-priority programs and better meet the strong demand for aerospace products.
