Rite Aid has announced more store closures after filing for bankruptcy a second time in as many years. The drug store announced it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy again on May 5, the second time since October 2023,

Rite Aid plans to sell the majority of its pharmacies to rival drugstore chains. CVS Health is one of the largest buyers, snapping up prescription files from hundreds of stores and fully acquiring 64 brick-and-mortar locations.

Thousands of Rite Aid customers may soon be visiting a new pharmacy. On Thursday, the national pharmacy chain announced it plans to sell the pharmacy services of more than 1,000 locations to competing pharmacies. If the sales are approved by the relevant bankruptcy court, Rite Aid’s pharmacy services will be transferred to the buyers.
