Heavy snow, ice and brutal cold are expected to make this winter storm a potentially life-threatening weather event, stretching across two-thirds of the U.S.

A blockbuster storm system is headed to New England on Sunday that will blanket the region with double-digit jackpot snowfall of a foot to nearly 2 feet, the most significant winter storm the Boston area has seen in four years.

A powerful winter storm continued to disrupt daily life across Tennessee on Jan. 26, bringing snow, ice and dangerous travel conditions to much of the state.

It does not appear that the storm will track close enough to New England to deliver what could have been, a devastating and destructive blow.

Frigid conditions continue in Massachusetts, where Wednesday will begin and end with sub-zero wind chills. High temperatures across the state will only reach the low 20s in Boston, Worcester, Springfield and Cape Cod & the Islands,
