The U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave the recall a more urgent classification Friday after making its original announcement Aug. 15. The new classification said the affected product may temporarily cause adverse health consequences but is unlikely to cause serious or irreversible medical issues.

A voluntary recall of apple juice products containing elevated levels of poisonous arsenic has been expanded after an initial recall was issued last month, Walmart has announced.

Even more apple juice sold under Walmart’s store brand and the store brands of eight national retailers now are under recall by the Tampa company that produced them. “Products contains inorganic arsenic above action level set in guidance to industry,” said the FDA enforcement alert to which Walmart hyperlinked Friday.
