Isaiah Martin faces misdemeanor charges for disrupting a meeting, resisting arrest and criminal trespass, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Tensions ran high at the Texas Capitol Thursday as lawmakers held their first public hearing on a controversial plan to redraw the state’s congressional map just four years after the last one was finalized.

At the first of at least seven hearings, members of the public aired grievances about the unusual mid-decade redistricting effort.
