A fatal accident occurred during a track and field event at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) this weekend, a spokesperson for the school confirmed.

A Colorado man was killed Sunday during a high school track meet after a hammer thrown by an athlete accidentally struck him.

The incident occurred at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse on the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS) campus around 9:30 a.m. local time Sunday morning, UCCS said in a statement.
