China's subsea pipeline network has expanded to 10,000 kilometers, a key achievement in the nation's strategy to increase domestic oil and gas production and lessen its dependence on energy imports.

CNOOC Limited has launched oil production at the Wenchang 16-2 Oilfield Development Project in the northern part of the South China Sea, China’s top offshore oil and gas producer said on Thursday.

The company expects the project to reach plateau production of around 16,900boepd by 2026.
