John Taveres scored twice and added an assist to become the eighth active player to reach 1,100 career points as the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs recorded a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Thursday.

For the second time in two nights, the Rangers lost a game they had to win, against a team playing on the second night of a back-to-back. The Toronto Maple Leafs came into Madison Square Garden, got two goals from former Islander John Tavares and dealt the Rangers a crushing 4-3 loss, their third straight on the homestand, with one more game to go.
