Poll workers and voters in western North Carolina are overcoming several obstacles to participate in the election after Hurricane Helene's destruction in the region

In North Carolina, state officials have authorized different voting changes that will apply to the 25 counties that are under emergency orders because of the hurricane.

Challenges to another voter's registration must be filed with the county board of elections, which would then conduct a preliminary evidentiary hearing to determine whether grounds for the challenge are sufficient. The challenger bears the burden of proof in such challenges.
