The NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament enters the Sweet 16 today and Saturday. A handful of former high school girls basketball players from New York are still playing in the tournament with their respective teams.

NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament resumes Thursday night, and it’s down to the Sweet 16. It’ll be the Elite Eight after the regional semifinals on Thursday and Friday and then the Final Four after the regional finals on Saturday and Sunday.

The first decade of the 2000s continued to highlight the growth in the girls game. The players that ushered in the decade included St. John the Baptist’s Danielle Wilson, who was one of Long Island’s premier shot blockers.
