WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Pitching well against his former team couldn’t prevent Luis Severino from falling to 0-3 with the Athletics. Severino was in a scoreless game until allowing a run-scoring single to Tyrone Taylor on his 103rd and final pitch, and the New York Mets went on to an 8-0 victory over the A’s on Sunday.

Severino signed a two-year, $45 million deal with the Athletics with a player option for 2027. He went 11-7 with a 3.91 ERA with the Mets in 2024. Severino said he had hoped to remain with them.
