The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office is working to combat drug smuggling after confirming three inmates died from overdoses this year.

The Sacramento County Sheriff is expected to address on Thursday the issues of fentanyl and drugs in jails. Last September, questions mounted after drugs and dangerous contraband wound up behind bars at the Sacramento County Main Jail.

He said his deputies have confiscated enough fentanyl at the jail “to kill the entire population of Elk Grove.”
