Sean Burke had just gotten out of the hot tub Sunday morning when first-year Chicago White Sox manager Will Venable called Burke, the former St. John’s High star pitcher from Sutton, into his office.

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Sean Burke impressed on Opening Day, tossing six shutout innings, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out three on the way to earning the win in the 8-1 victory over the Angels.

Making the first Opening Day start of his career, Burke was a bit rocky early Thursday as he allowed four baserunners in the first two innings, but he kept the Halos off the board and followed up by retiring the final 13 batters he faced.
