U.S. President Donald Trumpis expected to speak with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putinthis week on ways to end the three-year war in Ukraine, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff told CNN on Sunday after returning from what he described as a "positive" meeting with Putin in Moscow.

The Kremlin is pressing an offensive to take back its land in the Kursk region, while prolonging negotiations over a proposal by Washington and Kyiv.

The barrage comes less than 24 hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed details of the U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire with a U.S. envoy.

Ukraine's allies have agreed to put pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a legitimate cease-fire proposal after a virtual summit of Western nations' leaders that didn't include the United States.
