The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels were taking revenge on civilians after suffering defeats by Congolese forces.

A week of attacks by ISIL-backed rebel group Allied Democratic Forces has killed more than 50 people in eastern DR Congo, the UN says.

The group's ultimate goal is to establish a “caliphate” in Central Africa, similar to ISIS’s vision in Iraq and Syria.
