The film has taken an estimated $87.3m globally during its opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.

The PG-rated remake debuted in 4,200 theaters and sold an average of $10,238 per theater, but the studio and movie theaters may have been hoping for more.

The reimagining of the classic fairy tale led a competitive field of new releases and set the tone for the upcoming Easter holiday period.
