‘Star sapphires’, what you need to know…. ✨ The star-shape, also called asterism, is a reflection effect on the tiny needle-shaped rutile inclusions dispersed in the gemstone. They are most commonly found in rubies and sapphires (and some quartz), when cut in a cabochon shape. Most star sapphires feature a 6-ray stars, but these gems can also have 4-ray, 8-ray and even 12-rayed stars! 💫 As demonstrated in the video, they are best seen in a bright single source of light (in this case, the sun).
