Anselm Kiefer inaugurated the exhibition 'Sag mir wo die Blumen sind' in a remarkable way—by inscribing the title of his work, 'Steigend, steigend, sinke nieder,...' directly onto the wall.​ This symbolic act marked the opening of the dual exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Van Gogh Museum.
