#OnThisDay 205 years ago, Francis Scott Key watched as nearby Fort McHenry was bombed by British military rockets. As morning came, he was shocked to see that it was the American Flag, not the Union Jack, that was still flying above the fort. This inspried him to pen the lyrics to "The Star-Spangled Banner" to the tune of "Anacreon in Heaven." Congress would officially recognize this as the National Anthem in 1931.
