Between 1965 and 1971, they racked up fourteen Billboard Top 40 singles, combining a garage rock edge with Revolutionary War-inspired outfits and a rebellious sense of fun. Paul Revere, founder and organist for Paul Revere & The Raiders, was born on this day in 1938. While the group was best known for defining ‘60s rock songs like “Kicks,” “Hungry” and “Him or Me - What’s It Gonna Be,” it was the socially conscious “Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Indian)” that became their only No. 1 hit in 1971.
